Focus of the letter 17

Every week new models are released by major players in generative AI, and this week it’s Google’s turn with Gemini TTS, Mistral with Mistral OCR 3 and Alibaba with Wan 2.6.

Can you keep up? It can be difficult to follow as the versions follow one another! And it’s precisely this week that I discovered Design Arena which could be very useful to find your way around.

Like other ranking applications already seen on the site such as Chatbot Arena or the inevitable Compar:IA for generative text AIs, Design Arena seems interesting to me on several points:

• be able, when new models are published, to situate their performance among existing models according to user feedback – admittedly subjective but very numerous – both on multiple and specific tasks,
• discover new ones thanks to blind “tournaments”… while often accounting that the model usually used for this or that task is not necessarily the most efficient,
• Be inspired by other users’ tests by browsing a given category.
• and finally, test and use models that are only accessible by subscription for free.
