One day, one generative AI tool

Focus

What if small models were enough?

Focus of the letter 21

Some of you may have already guessed it, but today let’s zoom in on the small models, which are also open-source. Four models this week tick these two criteria: GLM ImageTranslateGemmaFlux 2 Klein and Z-image.

I choose them for this focus for three main reasons:
– open-source and free, usable in other projects by developers,
– lightweight, which do not require excessive resources and machinery to carry out the tasks required,
– and effective for routine requests.

More broadly, I see it as a new opportunity to question ourselves individually and collectively: do we really need to question generalist models with hundreds of billions of parameters for most of the tasks we perform with generative AI?
These models show that they can generate these tasks efficiently while remaining in a frugal and controlled approach…
To think about for future uses or developments?
